Reviews:
As you wouldexpect from a rapper who calls himself Bone Crusher, this guy sure does yell alot. In fact, Bone Crusher, a former restaurant chef from Atlanta, tends to decoratehis choruses with deep, gravely bellows that feel as much like goth-metal as hip-hop.AttenCHUN!, which the giant rapper (well over six feet, 380 pounds) recorded onhis own before southern hip-hop producer/entrepreneur Jermaine Dupri signed itup, added a skit, and resequenced the songs, has plenty of bluster aside fromhis own voice: walloping, monolithic bass lines, semi-sinister, shivering guitarnotes, gothic piano lines. But as anyone who's been run over by the single "NeverScared"either in the original version, featuring Killer Mike and T.I., that'sincluded here, or in the more recent "Takeover Remix" with Jadakiss and BustaRhymes, which is included on Arista's Ultimate Smash Hits compilationis aware,it's the chorus chants that Bone Crusher specializes in.
So think of him as theAndrew W.K. of hip-hop, particularly given their similar, constant urging thatwe believe in ourselves. Unfortunately, despite a few interesting musical touchesnear the disc's end (what is that weird bird-squeal sound that pops up every fourbars on "Ghetto Song"?), Bone Crusher becomes incredibly monotonous over 57 anda half minutes. Inspirational choruses can run dry pretty quickly, especiallywhen you repeat them ad infinitumand when they really aren't all that masterfulto begin with. Considering that there are 22 guest stars here, you'd think oneof them could have helped him come up with something else.
