==== PARK AVE CDs: Orlando's Finest Music Emporium! ====

From the opening dissonant chords and driving rhythm on Joe Simon's killer arrangement of 'Long Ago and Far Away' you know you're in for a great ride. And you won't be disappointed. The outstanding trio Joe has assembled with the very musical and melodic Greg Loughman on bass and the versatile, sparkling Steve Rose on drums seems to propell each player to new heights and depths! I met Joe a few years ago at the Acton Jazz Cafe, that amazing little west suburban venue that has nurtured so many local artists, become a favorite stomping ground of the Boston area's stellar jazz scene, and listed in Downbeat Magazine's "100 Great International Jazz Clubs". From the beginning, I admired Joe's strong playing, energy and prolific ideas. But now, a few years later, he's burning. So thank goodness he has recorded this CD which showcases his formidable chops (listen to some of those runs!! gorgeous!), hip arrangements, dark reharmonizations, his swing, his break beats, his blues and three of his compositions. Enjoy the ride! I will again and again! Molly Flannery, July, 2006.
